How to install vaultguard

npm

claude mcp add -e VAULTGUARD_PASSPHRASE=<your-vaultguard-passphrase> vaultguard -- npx -y @ashishrao-4/[email protected]

Or add it to your MCP config (Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "vaultguard": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@ashishrao-4/[email protected]"
      ],
      "env": {
        "VAULTGUARD_PASSPHRASE": "<your-vaultguard-passphrase>"
      }
    }
  }
}

Environment variables:
VAULTGUARD_PASSPHRASE (required) – Passphrase that decrypts the encrypted secret blocks in your Obsidian vault.
VAULTGUARD_VAULT_PATH – Path to your Obsidian vault (overrides the one in ~/.vaultguard/config.json).
VAULTGUARD_HOME – Config directory (defaults to ~/.vaultguard).
VAULTGUARD_ALLOW_GET_SECRET – Set to 1 to enable get_secret (default: disabled so values never reach the agent).

Replace placeholders in <angle brackets> with your own values. Review what a server can access before you enable it.
